Our Mission

Born out of first-hand experience and a deep understanding of the challenges teachers face, Teachmate’s mission is simple:

“Equip every teacher with the transformative power of AI to reduce workload and enhance learning.”

Teachmate is an expanding suite of AI tools that improve task efficiency and personalise educational resources to promote learning and inclusion. We help teachers be the best version of themselves, both in and out of the classroom.

Our team

Lee Parkinson MBE

Co-Founder

Lee has been a Primary School Teacher for 15 years, during which time he has built a wealth of ideas for how technology can be embedded across the curriculum.

He continues to work part time in school and also leads CPD and INSET training throughout the UK and beyond, focusing on raising standards in the classroom through technology. He has supported hundreds of schools and thousands of teachers make better use of technology in their classrooms.

Dr Jonathan Chippindall

CEO

Jon Chippindall, known as 'Dr Chips' by his pupils, has been a primary school teacher in Manchester for over 10 years.

Jon also leads the primary computing PGCE at The University of Manchester and works with schools nationally to improve computing education. Jon is passionate about supporting schools to deliver high-quality educational experiences for learning whilst ensuring teacher well-being remains a priority.

Ian Cunningham

CTO

Ian has been an influential figure in the online technology industry for over two decades. He has advised the UK government on artificial intelligence and is dedicated to ensuring technology is used for good, driving positive impact across society.

Having previously led a successful technology company, Ian brings proven leadership experience alongside deep technical insight. A father of three daughters, he is driven by a desire to empower teachers with innovative AI tools that personalise learning for every student, with a particular focus on supporting SEND needs.

Karen Dillamore

Community Engagement Manager (Primary)

Karen lives in Hampshire with her husband, two teenage boys and Lola the labradoodle. Following a career as an IT and Business Analyst, Karen retrained as a teacher in 2013. Since then, she has been a primary school teacher always keen to bring technology to the classroom to support teachers and engage children.

She joined Teachmate as Community Engagement Manager in April, while continuing to teach her Year 5 class for the other half of the week. Already a keen Teachmate user, she joined the team excited about enabling teachers to reduce their workload and achieve a better work-life balance. She shares and discusses ideas with the teaching community and supports them to make the best use of Teachmate.

Mel Edwards

Head of Operations

Mel is Head of Operations at Teachmate. Mel has extensive experience liaising with members and organisations having previously been in the Marketing and PR world for 18 years.

Mel is always on hand to assist with queries and you’ll often find she is your first point of call to help in any way she can. Mel is diligent and efficient, embodying all that Teachmate stands for, helping streamline processes to ensure teachers have the chance of some well-deserved “me time”.

Nick Egan

Director of Customer Success

Nick has 15 years’ experience working in English schools, starting as a Teaching Assistant before becoming Head of English and later Assistant Principal.

For the past three years, he has worked in EdTech, supporting schools with curriculum resources and helping education companies reach new national and international audiences. Nick is passionate about helping schools leverage tools to improve teaching and learning, enable adaptive learning, and support staff well-being.

Sophie Gornall

Head of Marketing

Sophie is a former secondary English teacher and Teach First Ambassador with five years of classroom experience. She later led on strategic partnerships and public affairs in the education sector before specialising in marketing, where her expertise spans PR and communications, social media strategy and brand storytelling.

At Teachmate, she combines her teaching background with marketing insight to create campaigns that resonate with educators and highlight the impact of AI in the classroom.

Laura Halstead

Community Engagement Manager (Secondary and FE)

Laura has been teaching computer science for over 12 years in English schools, where she also served as Head of Year. Now based in Wales, she teaches digital technology and leads on curriculum development.

Outside of the classroom, much of her time is happily spent on the sidelines of football pitches, supporting either her children or her husband, depending on whose match is closer to home!

Trace Hollister

Operations Assistant

Tracey lives in Cornwall with her husband, four grown up children and her dog Darcie and loves nothing more than a stomp around the beautiful coastline. For the last decade she has worked as a Learning Support Assistant in a secondary school, supporting students with Special Educational Needs.

This was an incredibly rewarding experience where she helped students overcome challenges and thrive in their own way. Tracey has now joined the operations team at Teachmate to ensure the customer service levels continue to be high and to offer the extra support busy teachers need.

Faye Palmer

Community Advocate for Wales

Faye lives in the Welsh countryside with her young children and Rocco, the family’s ‘Jug’ (a Pug/Jack Russell.) After living in France, she returned to Wales to complete her Secondary PGCE and has since embraced a variety of middle leader roles, from Teacher Governor to DCF Coordinator and Data and Reporting lead. Faye has a particular passion for improving staff wellbeing and making school life more manageable for teachers.

Since joining as our Community Advocate for Wales in August 2024, her role has grown to include tool building and supporting the Community Engagement team on a wider scale. Faye loves finding creative ways to save teachers time and is always looking for new opportunities to support the teaching community across Wales.

Lindsay Round

Head of Product

Lindsay joined Teachmate in August 2024 as a Community Engagement Manager. She believes in the importance of streamlining workload for teachers to support their well-being while leaning in to the expertise that exists within the profession.

Lindsay is a psychology teacher who has recently moved back to the UK after spending ten years working in Malaysia, most recently as a Deputy Head. She is now based in Yorkshire, enjoying the cooler weather with her husband and two Malaysian cats.

Daniel Emmerson

Executive Director - Good Future Foundation

Daniel leads the Good Future Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to bridging the digital divide in education and supporting schools to integrate AI safely and effectively. With over 14 years of experience in school leadership and global education programmes, he works internationally on initiatives that advance equity, innovation, and safeguarding in AI adoption.

His expertise spans curriculum design, data privacy, and teacher professional development. Daniel also serves as a Board Director at the Institute of Global Learning and Academic Affairs Lead at Goodnotes, where he develops strategies to enhance teaching and learning through emerging technologies.

Alex More

Alex is an award-winning educator and leader with 22 years’ experience driving innovation and equity in education. He founded the Future Classroom and Ghana Project, delivering transformative learning to over 22,000 children across 12 countries. Alex’s work focuses on harnessing technology to enhance, not replace great teaching - creating meaningful global collaborations.

As a consultant for STEM Learning, he works at the forefront of AI innovation, bridging education and industry. His PhD research explores AI, equity, and student voice, positioning him as a trusted thought leader shaping the future of education, curriculum design, and professional development worldwide.

Laura Knight

Laura Knight is Founder and CEO of Sapio Ltd, specialising in AI, digital strategy, and innovation for education. An international keynote speaker, author, positive disruptor and strategist, Laura supports schools, universities, leadership associations, governments, and edtech companies to adopt an ambitious, ethical, human-centric approach to technology.

Her work spans digital pedagogy, holistic digital wellbeing, online safeguarding, leadership, governance, and change management. She serves on several advisory boards across the education sector, including the ISC Digital Advisory Group and the Good Future Foundation, is a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching and the RSA, and supports the work of UKAI.

Christian Turton

As the EdTech Lead at Chiltern Learning Trust, Christian Turton is an experienced leader in educational technology and an experienced educator with a passion for using technology to improve learning outcomes. For five years, his classes consistently achieved some of the best progress scores in the country.

Christian's expertise extends beyond the classroom. He has guided hundreds of schools and trusts on their digital strategies, developing and implementing over 100 successful one-to-one learning programmes. He also led a significant national initiative in partnership with the Chartered College of Teaching: the creation of the Department for Education's guidance on the safe and effective use of AI in education.

A recognised expert in professional learning, Christian holds certifications as a Google Certified Trainer and an Apple Professional Learning Specialist. His insights have been published in journals such as the Chartered College of Teaching's Impact and the Independent School Council's Digital Strategy Magazine.

Claire Archibald 

Claire Archibald is a data protection, information law and AI governance and education solicitor. As Legal Director at Browne Jacobson LLP she advises the UK education and services to education sectors. Claire’s legal expertise is enhanced by her background as a schools DPO and as a School Business Manager.

She is also leading voice on AI governance in education, championing strategies for schools to develop effective and sustainable AI governance and compliance programmes. Claire won the Champion of the Year award at the Picasso Europe Awards in November 2024, for her work highlighting the importance of data protection in the education sector.
